A field of practices,
A cluster of performances.
M objective is less about portraying a literal representation of a place but rather an attempt to convey feelings surrounding ephemerality and the role of the custodian, using the form of a book as a repository or container. Requiring both touch and time as a process and language, it can enable new readings of a site.
‘Borrowed Light’ was made at Oakley Beat, a famous fishing beat on Mottisfont Estate. Using camera-less, historical photographic processes, light sensitive papers were hand coated with cyanotype or silver halides. These were then placed on site using local plants and left for long periods of time. Being exposed to the spontaneous elements of chance, weather and light, resulted in each print becoming a unique record of time and place.
‘Borrowed Light’ with its references to conservation practice, is also a durational personal field study and involved recording a variety of conditions whilst on site.
