Cyanotype is an old monochrome photographic printing process which gives a cyan-blue print, also known as 'prussian blue'. Sir John Herschel, the English scientist and astronomer discovered this process in 1842. Though Herschel is perhaps the inventor of the cyanotype process, it was Anna Atkins, a British scientist, who brought the process into the realm of photography. She created a limited series of cyanotype books that documented ferns and other plant life. By using this process, Anna Atkins is regarded as the first woman photographer.

As part of the '10 days, Chalk' exhibition in Winchester City Museum, I created an artists' book 'SpaceTime' which investigated issues relating to time and a specific archaeological site in the Hampshire chalk down lands.  The book was hand made and used both cyanotype print, drawings, stitch and burnt holes. The book was exhibited amongst the museum's artefacts.  This unique print was created based on one of the pages of 'SpaceTime'.  It was hand coated and exposed to 'Hampshire' sunlight.
