Preserving a moment,
in the very act of becoming.
I take part,
in the existence of things.‘
‘Printed Matter’ was made as part of a residency with the National Trust at Mottisfont from 2017 - 2018, where the objective was less about portraying a literal representation of a place but rather an attempt to convey feelings surrounding ephemerality and the role of the custodian, using the form of a book as a repository or container. By requiring both touch and time as a process and language, it enables new readings of a site.
‘Printed Matter’ was made at Oakley Beat, a famous fishing beat on the River Test within the Mottisfont Estate. Using camera-less, historical photographic processes, light-sensitive papers were placed on site using plants that grow in the rare chalk-stream habitat and left for long periods of time. Being exposed to the spontaneous elements of chance, weather and light, resulted in each print becoming a unique record of time and place.
Exhibited at 'For the Time Being' Exhibition, Mottisfont, National 03.05.19 - 07.07.19 .
