'WAAIT ‘We are all in this together' Exhibition, Easter Gallery, 205aS Kingsland Road, London
21 -25 April 2023 'Sympoiesis' ' Silver Gelatin Print, expired paper, plant developer. 61 x 78 cms An exhibition by current Royal College of Art students exploring the concept of interconnectedness and the need to address complex environmental and social issues by moving beyond disciplinary boundaries. The work featured embraced multidisciplinarity and recognised the agency of non-human entities, whilst addressing the post-human condition, the interplay between matter and discourse and the materiality of fuzziness. 'Sympoiesis' is an unframed silver gelatin print that was created using a phytogram, light and plant developer. It is a response to my current research, making visible my experience of mapping a specific landscape by engaging with place and perception, using an ethical and caring framework. This process is less environmentally destructive as I grow my own alternative darkroom chemicals and degrad any waste, which is reintroduced to the environment in the form of fertiliser. 'Sympoiesis' is a response to The Chelsea Physic Garden, whilst on a one year residency, during which time I have created a method of working using camera-less photography, compost and other recycled materials that explore the concept of interconnectedness and agency of matter. This framework can be moved into the studio and continue to inform ongoing conversations regarding ecological and societal anxieties surrounding impermanence and instability. |
