Chemi-Lumens are a beautiful and safe way to create abstract photographic images using darkroom processes, however, without a camera or a darkroom! It’s a unique way of creating an image that uses plants and resists on photographic paper using sunlight and alternative plant-based chemistry in an outdoor setting, making it an altogether more magical, satisfying and safe method.

In this workshop, you will be provided with all the necessary materials and create your own chemistry from plants in The Gatehouse’s garden.  The joy of using a handmade alternative to toxic commercial chemistry means the local ecology of the site is embedded into the work, as well as being far more sustainable and caring.

At the end of the session, the work is fixed and will remain permanent, enabling each participant to take home a unique piece of artwork.
